Well, Alan, you're putting me on the spot. I see the screamer as expressing an extreme psychological terror - I don't know, cripes! On Foucault, I have never warmed to him and remain blissfully ignorant of what is going on inside his head. I refer you to a recent article by Jillian Becker who has some hard things to say about him and other thinkers like him. Search for "Foucault" on The Atheist Conservative website (on my blog list), and you'll find the article (which I commented on by the way). The article is called The cultivation of evil, the sickness of Europe.
Was he posing for the Munch "Scream" painting? Seems a little quiet if so.
